Blood Transfusions
Introduction
What is a blood transfusion?
A blood transfusion is when donated blood is given to you through a intravenous line (IV). This can potentially be a life-saving procedure to help replace the blood lost or when your blood is too low in key components.
Why would you need a blood transfusion?
- Blood loss from major surgery
- Blood loss from injury
- Your body is not making blood as it should or your blood’s components are too low
- Anemia
- Certain Cancers
- Hemophilia
- Sickle Cell Disease
Where does the blood come from?
We work with a local blood bank that has a strict screening process to ensure the safety of the blood recipient. As with any transfusion there can be a potential heath risk, for more information on risks or for questions please call our office at (806) 358-8625.
